  I wanted a simple leather pouch made and left the leather with the charming saddler and his assistant. I didn't ask the price as I assumed that it would be reasonable. When I collected it I asked the price and was told £40 which seemed mildly expensive but the saddler said that it had been fiddly so I accepted with good grace. From behind me a strident woman, I assume his wife, said plus VAT! The sweet assistant said no it was included saying the book entry was £33.50 which when VAT is added and rounded comes to £40. The wife then very rudely said it was NO it is £48. IE £40+ VAT = £48 which I paid. I can live with paying an extra £8, as it is a present for my wife, however it is a matter of principal and the rudeness of correcting and embarrassing a junior assistant in public, when I know she was telling the truth, that I object to. Her rudeness and £8 has cost them much more than the profit as I will in future go to the saddler in Shipston on Stour rather than give her any more business.
